We all know that we live in a complex world. However unless we get up above it figuratively in a helicopter that can hover and move around to see all parts of our organization, we really do not have a holistic view of the organization.
Einstein once said that problems that are created by one level of thinking cannot be solved by that same level of thinking. So he agrees we need a helicopter view of life to be successful. For instance, just developing a strategic plan is not enough for an organization. You must continually be up in the helicopter looking at all parts and departments of the organization to ensure the strategic plan is being implemented successfully. You see, planning is just the first function of management and you need to integrate holistically planning, people, leadership, and change in order to deliver customer value.
